How to apply?
When you are applying for a student residence permit to Finland, you need to show an amount of 9600 euros in your own (applicant's) account. This amount refers to a one year of living expenses in Finland. The immigration wants to make sure that the student has at least one of your expenses and they can manage and survive here. You can show an equivalent amount in your own currency. For example, if you are applying from Pakistan you can show PKR amount in any of the local banks. And this amount has to come from your sponsor's account to your (applicant's) account.
Note: The bank statement or income requirements is recently changed. Earlier you need to show 6720 euros as one year of your living expenses but now it has been changed to 9600 euros. So, if you are apply for a residence permit after 1st November 2024 then you need to follow the new requirements.
If you are a Pakistani national, you have to go to Abu Dhabi to apply for a residence permit (student, work or spouse) for Finland.
Step 1:Â
Make sure that you have an acceptance letter from any university in Finland.
Step 2:
Get an appointment at the Embassy of Finland in Abu Dhabi (VFS Global - Abu Dhabi)
Step 3:
Collect all the required documents and get them scanned in a good quality. Here is the list of documents that you would need:
Admission letter
Bank statements (applicant and sponsor), the living expense amount of 9600 euros has to be transferred from the sponsor's account to the applicant's account
Documents proving the source of income of your sponsor (it can be a job letter, salary slips or business related documents, if he is a business owner)
Family Registration Certificate (FRC, if your father or mother or your brother is your sponsor)
Affidavit from your sponsor stating that he is going to sponsor your studies (living expenses in Finland)
Step 4:
You have to fill in the residence permit application on enterfinland.fi and attach all the required documents.
Step 5:
Submit your application before visiting the embassy in Abu Dhabi
Step 6:
Visit the embassy on the appointment date with all of your original documents
Step 7:
Authorize someone in Abu Dhabi (your friend, relatives or a courier service) that they can collected your residence permit on your behalf so that they can post it to you.
Step 8:
Wait for the response, you will be updated on enterfinland.fi regarding your application and if the embassy needs an additional information or document, they will ask you.
If you are applying from any other European country, the process would vary based on what type of resident you are in that country. It is always better to check the requirements based on your particular case, you can also contact us for clarifications.
For EU nationals, the education is free (you might not have to pay for a tuition fee). It is still a wise approach to study the program and admission requirements yourself.
If you are a Pakistani national and living in any European country on a student or work visa, then you would have to pay a tuition fee or apply for a scholarship.
